Did You Know That A Black Man Invented The Technology For The Cell Phone?

If it wasn’t for Dr. Henry T. Sampson we wouldn’t have cell phone technology today. Isn’t it funny how the mainstream media hasn’t made him a icon based off of his invention? Cellular telephony has spawned a Multi-billion dollar industry and has freed tens of millions of people, both at home and at work, to communicate anywhere, any time. I would of thought he would on the Times and Forbes magazines next to Bill Gate and Steve Jobs for discovering one of the greatest creations of our time.

Henry T. Sampson, the Black man who invented the cell phone On July 6th, 1971, Henry T. Sampson invented the “gamma-electric cell”, which pertains to Nuclear Reactor use. According to Dr. Sampson, the Gamma Electric Cell, patented July 6, 1971, Patent No. 3,591,860 produces stable high-voltage output and current to detect radiation in the ground.

Born in Jackson, Mississippi, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 1956. He went on to the University of California, Los Angeles where he graduated with an MS degree in engineering in 1961; University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, MS in Nuclear Engineering in 1965, and a PHD in 1967.

Mobile Communications took a big step forward in 1983 with the invention of the Cellular System regulating the portable telephones, which use radio waves to transmit and receive audio signals. Before this time, mobile telephone service in the United States, consisting mainly of car phones, was extremely limited because metropolitan areas had only one antenna for these purposes. In addition, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) assigned only 12 to 24 frequencies to each area, which meant that only that many calls could occur at a time. These limitations often meant a wait of up to 30 minutes for a dial tone and a five to 10 year waiting list just to acquire the service. With the invention of cellular phone service in 1983, personal communications no longer depended on wires. In the 1990s it would become possible to connect to the Internet from virtually anywhere in the world using a portable computer and a cellular modem with satellite service. Technologies that developed from different fields, such as personal communications, computation, and space exploration often worked together to serve the constantly evolving human needs of the information age.

Henry T. Sampson worked as a research Chemical Engineer at the US Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, California. 1956-61. Henry T. Sampson then moved on to the Aerospace Corp, El Segundo, California. His ti*les include: Project Engineer, 1967-81, director of Planning and Operations Directorate of Space Test Program, 1981-, and Co-inventor of gamma-electric cell. He holds patents related to solid rocket motors and conversion of nuclear energy into electricity. He also pioneered a study of internal ballistics of solid rocket motors using high-speed photography. He was also a producer of documentary films on early black filmmakers and films, a member of the board of directors of Los Angeles Southwest College Foundation, and a technical consultant to Historical Black Colleges and Universities Program.

Sampson’s Awards and Honors: Fellow of US Navy, 1962-1964 Atomic Energy Commission, 1964-1967 Black Image Award from Aerospace Corp, 1982 Blacks in Engineering, Applied Science, and Education Award, Los Angeles Council of Black Professional Engineers, 1983

*To think…that billions are being made by Apple and Samsung each years on this technology and not one person has acknowledged the importance of this man’s contribution is unforgiveable.

A casual slip of history or deliberate information suppression by the White Power machine?

  1. My son has to do a report on this gentleman. I am proud of our accomplishments as a people and consider myself a very knowledgeable person, however, this article does not flow logically. It seems like someone took his accomplishments and inserted information about cell phones. I have found this information in separate articles – stated separately (meaning his biography not citing anything about cell phone invention). So my question is where can I find how gamma-electric cells for a nuclear reactor aids in communication? This middle paragraph about mobile communications taking a big step says nothing about how gamma-electric cells were a part of that. Please help… (if you can) Thanks!

I hate when people spread mis-information, claiming it’s truth. I’m sure the guys a brilliant guy, and he has made contributions to science for sure, but even he admits he didn’t have anything to do with inventing cell phones!
Also, most inventions like cell phones are work of many people, creating different technologies and putting them together.
Generally Martin Cooper is credited for having ‘invented’ the cell phone, I guess he’s the first one to put all the right parts together.

The people who are saying he’s not the inventor are not saying that because of a race thing (except for that one ass!), it’s because it’s the truth :p

Do some research people, think for yourselves!

  3. Jay Macrease says:

The patent is for a method to produce electricity from Gamma rays from a nuclear reactor. How is this related to a cell phone?patent is below. Gamma rays would kill a person if it were emitted at the levels described in the patent. http://www.google.com/patents/US3591860

Sampson invented the gamma cell detector, something that has nothing to do with cellphones.

I guess the information given that credits his contribution as the “founder” just went over your head, huh, CraKKKa?

      • damphoose says:

Here is a link to his page on the Purdue University Engineering department website (where he graduated from). It quotes him saying he did not invent the cell phone
He was a nuclear engineer. The gamma cell is a device to get power from gama rays at nuclear power plants. It has nothing to do with cell phones. He was also the head of mission development for the space test program. That’s kind of big deal. This man’s accomplishments are being tarnished by this hoax that’s been circulation since 2013. Look up the patent number for his invention for yourself. All those stories keep linking to the same fake story. You can ask him yourself, he’s still alive, you can email him at Purdue.

It’s was a white man from Motorola

  6. southern pride says:

It was a white man from Motorola not a monkey from Africa you fools. The south will rise soon.

Your ass will be banned from my blog with a quickness!

The only thing white people are superior at is stupidity! To have access to knowledge, but still exhibit this type of ignorance, it’s no wonder your asses are at negative birthrate right now.

One of the greatest contributions that white men ever gave to the world, was suicide. 30,000 white males kill themselves every single year. Insulting Black people won’t change that reality.

And if you want to compare people to monkeys; check the similarities of DNA between apes and the Caucasoid–YOU!

I thank God every single day that I was not born a low, reactive, reptilian brained, Neanderthal.

      All praises be to God!

  8. Once again White Privilege, White Arrogance and White theft strikes again… I took a course in Law a few ears ago, and this Bill Gates and Steve Jobs would be guilty of the Tort of Passing Off. And so would Frederick Idestam and Leo Michelin who are touted as the inventors of Nokia Mobile…. They leeched off the work of one man and take all the credit for it…

Which once again prove what alot of afrocentrists have been saying for years, White People are not, and can never have been the original human beings, they could not have been the fathers of civilization. They have no culture of their own and steal and appropriate other people’s cultures and then try to erase the truth there after through white washing or outright denial…….. Thanks alot truthangel… I close with this proverb

These three things are not long hidden, the sun, the moon and the truth… I got that from Teen Wolf…

I am so happy to know that black people, the descendants of the hebrew israelites, are blessed and divinly inspired because their ancestors suffered, persecution, torment, humiliation. I believe in black people!

The bible said “Matthew 5:13 that ye are the salt of the earth”, meaning the world without black people is worth nothing! Also Deutronomy 7:6 states “The Most High chose, and favored black people above all people’s of the earth! Black people are The Most High’s treasure!

I guess this is a lesson for black people, not to showcase their innovative creations to white people, because white people always steal, and never give credit for true inventor back! These caucasoids can no longer be trusted!

I agree they’re not hueman, nor the original man! They’re mutated man kind! It’s funny how white people fail to comprehend their repugnant, embarrasing history in 7th century, where the moors came and ruled Europe, and civilized these ungrateful dog smelling caucasoids who used to defecate, urinate, and eat in the same spot as recorded in Islamic history books!

All if these european sculptures, and renaissance paintings were made through moorish art, and science! The renaissance was the start of the age of deception were the caucasoids became the lead.

The mutated white beast are only clever, in creating things that are contrary and harmful to huemanity! Explosives, burning radiactive nuclear waste which results in pollution, bio-engineered epidemic such swine flu, bird flu, aids and ebola sickle cell fall under the same category. Atomic bombs, fire arm, genetically modified food, clonning synthetic mankind like them because of whites having low fertility rate!

In 2014, I wrote a very power blog piece regarding the evil nature of white people. It’s never been debated by “them.” My blog gets their attention, but I don’t esteem them and will ban their assess with a quickness. I simply will not allow agent provocateurs to contaminate the truth of what I’m stating about them in my pieces.

Now I truly know what Malcolm X meant when he said that white people, but their very nature, are depraved.

        Very much so.

      • I am a black man and i have done my research and the fact is that Mr. Henry T. Sampson did not invent the cell phone. We have so many things as a race to be proud of and spreading misinformation takes away from the great accomplishments of Mr. Sampson. Your time would be better served promoting unity within the black community. We don’t need to convince white people of our greatness, we need to convince ourselves. The truth will help us rise as a people, not misinformation.

I don’t know if you’re Black. His biography is available for anyone to read.
