On July 31, 2015, there were two stories trending: The shooting death of Sam DaBose in Cleveland by a Cleveland police officer and then another: The killing of a beloved lion named Cecil in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park by a Minnesota Dentist after being lured out of his protective habitat by him, then shot, and beheaded (for trophy). White people have literally been in an uproar over this, but not such reaction to the countless stories of innocent Black males who’ve been killed by white police officers. This story broke on the same day that the Cincinnati police officer was indicted for the shooting death of Sam DaBose.
There is currently legislation being enacted by the United States Senate that is going to be presented to the United Nations. The United Nations?
Apparently, there has been global outrage over the senseless killing of African wild life. I can understand that, but there has been senseless killing of Black people in America for over 400 years that hasn’t sparked this kind of outrage.
As a Black woman that has been observing the current events that have been impacting Black lives, first, while growing up in Chicago, and the systematic murders of young Black males since the casual and senseless slaying of Trayvon Martin in 2012; I have to question, what the hell is wrong with white folks? I mean really?
These people get all up in arms over the killing and abuse of animals, but say nothing, even with proof, of innocent Black lives taken.
I love animals. The lion is the symbol of the motherland. However, it is circumspect to see this type of misplaced outrage over a creature (who is not the first lion killed for sport) literally being immortalized with memorials and pictures all over the media about the value of its life.
Are not Black lives valuable?
Many politicians and celebrities are quick to denounce the dentist and pay reverence to the dead lion. Not many are willing to speak out against the senseless violence and killings of young Black men and women at the hands of mostly white police officers. Clearly, a sick double-standard exists. Another glaring example of the strange duplicity in the minds of white people.
“I hope that #WalterPalmer loses his home, his practice & his money. He has already lost his soul…” tweeted Sharon Osbourne on Wednesday.
Even late night host, Jimmy Kimmel choked up at the discussion Cecil death on his show and described it as, “a disgusting tragedy.”
There truly is some kind of strange disconnect.
Writer Roxane Gay asked on Twitter to ask if black people would get more concern if they dressed like lions.
“I’m personally going to start wearing a lion costume when I leave my house so if I get shot, people will care,” she posted.
You know, maybe she has a point.

I grew up watching Nature on PBS and Mutual of Ohama’s Wild Kingdom. So, I love Lions and Big Cats as a whole. They’re beautiful creatures, which explains the outrage. Never understood the concept of killing wild animals for the thrill. It magnifies the worst traits in Whitemen, truth be told. While all of this was going on, Sandra Bland dies in jail of mysterious circumstances and Samuel Dubose is shot in the head by a Cincinnati police officer concerning a traffic stop. Also, Planned Parenthood videos expose the organization for trafficking fetal organs for so-called research purposes. No outrage among Americans as a whole. But, a Dentist from Minnesota killing Cecil is a global story. It shows how warped they really are. Be outraged about all of the bulls@#t, not just animals. Truth be told, many within our own race don’t value Black Lives. But, we run from the truth all too often…2015 2015 2015!

The reason is simple. They care more about animals because they see us as less than human. Animals are seen as innocent creatures that deserve to live a happy life. Blacks are seen as evil disgusting creatures that deserve no sympathy at all. Once you understand their mindset it all makes sense. That’s why you have groups like PETA running around talking about animals have a right to life!!! Total hypocrisy!!!

Kushite. Black people were outraged at how white people around the world went crazy over the killing of a Lion (I love them too). But really…what does this truly say? You’re absolutely right in how you broke it down. The irony though…of wanting to attack the dentist for killing a lion but then, promote hunting as they do. These people are just plain nuts.

I’m glad you talked about this new, I find disgusting the fact how they compare the life of an animal with the lives of hundreds of blacks who are killed in America!
They have once again demonstrated, they don’t give damn about black life!
Also disgusts me the amount of comments I have read today that have said ‘not all white people’ or ‘It hurts me that people think I’m racist just because I’m white’ or ‘stop making me feel guilty because of who my ancestors were or what they did’ and ‘this isn’t about race’ confirms to me that white people don’t have comprehension skills and NO empathy to any issues aside from their own!
Or we (white people) support the lives of blacks and whites, but also the animals! What they are serious? What a fucking human beings they are?
They are not offering condolences to the black families who have had their lives stolen from them, they are not condemning actions of that murderous racist white cops,they are complaining that their being labelled as a racist! Black people really need to stop expecting white people to “FEEL” anything about what they do or what happens to us. They are unfeeling humanoids; their ancestors emerged from caves. So enlighten me…why are blacks shocked by the behavior of white people again? Whites have consistently shown us their depravity and that our lives do not matter. That record is on repeat. Yet and still blacks are surprised when the lives of wild animals inspire more concern than the lives of blacks worldwide. Because I know the enemy, nothing white people do will shock me. Absolutely nothing. At this point, What can they do that hasn’t already been done before?
Which brings me to another point- our culpability in all this. No one is going to take us seriously when we continue to slaughter each other daily in the inner city- they’re just not. That is a reality of life that blacks refuse to accept. That is the underlying message in all this that is being ignored.

Hi @Jaaylah, perhaps I didn’t express my point clearly. No, I don’t think whites will respect us if black on black crime disappeared. What I”m saying is that no one in the global community will take us seriously and even be inspired to fight or champion our causes. I”m speaking more about obtaining global allies to fight white supremacy than I am about garnering respect from white people.
Believe me, whites have a deep, spiritual hatred for black people (the original people). Nothing black people can do will ever change that. I just wish more blacks understood that.

Because in this country showing your humanity is a controlled narrative towards things that have no effect on the status quo that benefits those who consider themselves arbitrators of how one supposed to react to things that doesn’t upset the system. If this same affection was shown to African Americans things would have been done on governmental levels to modify or change laws that would greatly reduce the violent acts by police officers towards black people. This killing of the lion gives the perception of humanity that we all know the Caucasian people don’t have. They only show this compassion towards things that are not a threat to them because they can be controlled. These are manufactured humans we are talking about here. Everything about them that makes them look human was because the interaction with black Moors since they left the caves has given them a blueprint and template to work from.
It not in their being naturally as they possess no soul from which compassion is supposed to spring from. The light races were not made to be permanent residents of the earth. Like many species that have come and gone, they too are destined to disappear. The purpose for their creation is for the manifestation and experience of that part of God commonly called evil, but better called self-forgetfulness. Once all the Gods (Black People) have gained this experience, then the species used to manifest it is no longer needed in the universe. Once a species of life has served its purpose, it disappears from the earth like any other species. I am not interested in the slightest for white people to show any conscious towards how black people are treated no more than my dog who licks my leg of a cut he sees me try to treat.
As I am very capable of fixing this problem myself just like black people are if those of us are weeded out who would or have been assisting the enemy. Because we as black people those who want to change things for the better have to stop assuming that other black people are just as fed up with the system of white supremacy.. They are only interested in their turn to further assist in the demise if the pay is good. White people are more animal then that lion that was killed because even that was here before they showed up and took over with blood on their minds. Remember this, the black man is much more intimidating then any animal that is on this earth. How? Because if that same lion were walking up the side walk with white people would feel compelled to pet it; but if a black man walked that same side walk they would quickly step to the side and let us have the whole walk way to ourselves. I have personally done this on many occasions and I am a small guy.
This is why they are asking for permission to use a word (n****a) that they supposedly should have the right to use under the constitution right? Well why aren’t they since there is no law that prohibits their usage of such term if this is a free country? It can’t be to free if the presence of the black man has them second and third guessing themselves right? Especially if we are using openly in the same vicinity. Comical I know. Us expecting them to show humanity towards us is no different than expecting your house cat to have a plate of breakfast ready for you in the morning before you go to work. Peace.
